The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Share Displeasure Regarding Size Updates
Vinted users have been reacting angrily due to a modification that led to listings displaying inaccurate size information.
The second-hand shopping app has altered its sizing categories for female and kids' apparel but did not contact all shoppers about the modification.
Digital Channels Backlash
Many shoppers and sellers are expressing on platforms claiming that product pages now present a modified sizing category versus the original listing because of the remapping.
The platform stated the updated approach better aligns with similar services.
The platform has recommended to review their products and update the measurements by hand if necessary, causing user dissatisfaction.
Size Classification Modifications
Earlier, the measurements included numerical and alphabetical indicators, such as S/8 or M/10.
The new system has a letter with a size spectrum like S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the measurements have been reclassified - for example a size L was previously a 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
User Experiences
A fashion influencer, who creates plus-size fashion videos, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
A different member, based in Glasgow, stated items she posted with size 14 tags were appearing on the platform as size 20–22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they may become frustrated," she explained.
Required Changes
Charlotte Lunn, from Derby, stated she felt frustrated because the modification necessitated personal updates the sizing for "all her products".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, as I'm chronically ill and platform income has been essential after experiencing income reduction," she said.
Service Background
The platform boasts over 100 million shoppers, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has emerged as a preferred choice versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time that an unexpected update within the service has received backlash: previously, the platform withdrew an update to its shipping options after backlash from users.
